The Commuter Code
We all have something in common: every morning, thousands of us are forced to share the asphalt on our way to work, or school or daily activities. Be it by car, by bike or by foot – it’s the only way we’re going to get where we need to be. Unfortunately, commuters, frustrated by packed trains, stop–and–go traffic, inclement weather, and overwhelming schedules, let the frustration come between us. This gap, created over and over again by the act of choosing a way to commute, separates each group into their own fraternity.
Each of these groups find comfort in their collective. Avoiding acquiring information about the others’ rules, habits, and motivations. This lack of information inherently leads to further miscommunication, causing the situation to consistently worsen.
To start solving the blacktop wars we face every day, those who commute need to avoid ignorance and educate ourselves on all the rules we are required to follow. As well as all the rules and laws which our commuting counterparts are required to adhere to as well. When everyone understands these requirements, it’s much less likely that there will be as much misplaced anger.
While everyone on the road is responsible for their actions, the most vulnerable road users are pedestrians, children, older or disables people, cyclists, and motorcyclists. It’s important that everyone is aware of the Code and are considerate towards each other. This applies to pedestrians and cyclists as much as to drivers.

The Font
The typeface used throughout the project is Roadgeek. It’s an interpretation of the typeface Clearview.
Clearview was developed in a research program to increase the legibility and improve ease of recognition of road sign legends while reducing the effects of halation (or overglow) for older drivers and drivers with reduced contrast sensitivity when letters are displayed on high brightness retroreflective material.

The Colors
Primarily, the colors used in the project were chosen to match national signage systems, connecting it better to the commuter themes.
